SME-ART (Small and Medium Sized Enterprises - Applied Research Technology)
The SME-ART project focus on capacity building and the development of applied R&D capabilities, focused at strengthening the SME sector.
This project is a corner-store of SINTEF activities in Macedonia and is financed by Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Project period is: 2002-2006
The philosophy behind this project is a holistic approach to addressing the needs of the SME sector in Macedonia, where the universities in collaboration with government and SMEs together strive to better support the SME sector. Characteristics of this project are: capacity building at universities and among SMEs, sustainable economic development, promoting poverty alleviation, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, holistic approach to SME support, preventing brain drain, regional integration and international cooperation, and development of applied R&D capabilities.

Project resulsts:
- 44 company improvement projects implemented in 27 Macedonian SMEs
- Organised 4 company specific seminars and 8 practical oriented seminars
- Developed 1 interdisciplinary course covering areas related to production, organisation and economics of business entities
- Held 3 different lectures by the SINTEF’s experts for students at the Faculty of Mechanical engineering, “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University
- 5 postgraduate students and 59 undergraduate students included on the SME-ART improvement projects; 13 of them having students practice at the M.I.R. Foundation
