Teteks AD - Sustainable Job Creation & Business Development
The project has two main goals:
- To strengthen Teteks AD as a viable market based company and
- To develop new employment for the population in Tetovo.
Project duration is 2004-2006
Teteks AD is a more than 50 year old company in the textile industry. It was privatized in 1991.
Ownership today is comprised of current and former employees with management holding more than 60 % of shares. Teteks is involved in many different businesses but the core business is in textile. Teteks has an integrated plant with factories for yarn, weaving, knitware and garment production. Own production is based on wool, but the knitware and garment factories do increasing amount of loan production (Cut and make – CM or cut, make, trim - CMT).
In the old days Teteks employed more than 7000 employees. Today this has been reduced to less than 2500 and some of the factories are facing difficulties. Teteks AD is located in Tetovo, a city of around 130.000 people of mixed ethnicity. The first goal in the project is to strengthen Teteks to preserve and develop these workplaces, which are offered to all ethnic groups. Combined with this effort some issues concerning energy usage and wastewater treatment are also addressed.
The downsizing of Teteks has also released considerable infrastructure that is not used today. The second objective in the project is to use the possibilities offered by this infrastructure to create new workplaces. The main instruments for this purpose will be establishing a business incubator and development of the area as an industrial park.
